In this exhibition, Sugiyama’s first solo in two years at the A/D Gallery, “ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT” series produced from 2017 to 2018 will be exhibited.
For Sugiyama, the watercolor painting is fun as it is uncontrollable, containing an abstract aspect. Out of 108 pieces he painted while looking rather inward within himself, 21 pieces will be showcased in this exhibition.
Opening Party
Date & Time: 18:00-20:00, April 13 [Fri], 2018
Venue: Roppongi Hills A/D Gallery
Admission: Free
The 108 paintings are 26 x 36 cm in size and done from the honesty of freedom from seeking, simply following the external and internal stimuli that I receive in my daily life. I did not set the goal for any of the images.
The number of paints used at times was decided ahead, sometimes an abstract form was drawn first, overall it was a journey to explore what freedom is.
