Eguchi Ayane Intervals

Eguchi Ayane continues to create works that explore the harmony of the opposing elements in this world: cuteness and eeriness, life and death.

Eguchi’s works are painted in vivid colors, and depict a fantastical world filled with adorable creatures such as teddy bears and colorful mushrooms. However, the details portray flesh and blood, revealing the parallels between the worlds shown in each of these curious paintings and the world full of contradictions in which we live.

This exhibition features the artist’s works from past to present. We hope you will enjoy the ways in which the various expressions found in Eguchi’s artwork such as their texture, dynamism, and elegance, intersect and overlap seamlessly as if connecting one act behind the curtain to the next.

Eguchi Ayane

Born in Hokkaido in 1985. Completed the Master’s program in oil painting at the Kanazawa College of Art in 2011, and received the Special Jury Award in the graduation project category of the KANABI Creative Award 2010 that same year. Eguchi has held group and solo exhibitions since then to popular acclaim, both inside and outside Japan.
At first glance, her work appears to show cute characters in a world of fantasy, but upon closer inspection reveals a flesh-and-blood eeriness and an undercurrent of violence to present both contradiction and harmony on the canvas.
Eguchi’s major solo exhibitions include Sugar-Coated Landscape (2023, Hiro Hiro Art Space, Taiwan) and ‘Q’ which decomposes (2022, Mizuma Art Gallery, Tokyo), and has also participated in ART OF MIKU (Parco Museum Tokyo), a contemporary art event held in 2024.
