SOMETA’s concept of “NEEDY” explores the inner complexities of evaluation and desire for recognition in modern social media culture. She creates portraits by reconstructing elements that have had a strong influence on her, such as the anime, manga, culture magazines, and fashion she grew up around.
This exhibition is a sequel to her solo exhibition NEEDY vol.3.0, held at Roppongi Hills A/D Gallery last year. Through these diverse portraits of needy girls, she aims to draw viewers into her world, eliciting empathy and a sense of both nostalgia and newness.
The works, which condense the values and emotions that SOMETA has felt and contemplated through social media, exude a slightly nostalgic, yet somehow new quality. This exhibition serves as a culmination of the artist’s current work.

SOMETA
She began creating digital art through self-study in 2020, publishing content predominantly via social media, and began to work in earnest as an artist in 2022. Her work came about from releasing artwork on social media as a result of her own feelings of need. SOMETA continues to express through portrait art the neediness that so many feel in this era of social media.
