Mizuno Rina - nested structure -

2018.2.16 [Fri] - 3.11 [Sun]

The exhibition stresses three points, including the decorative nature of intricately drawn Middle Eastern artwork, elements that incorporate the brush style of Ito Jakuchu in his ink paintings, and the canvas itself; and is composed of layered screen spaces designed to put these three points into collaborative effect.
Mizuno’s aim is to create works that the eye can see, but never fully.
This is the first solo exhibition in Tokyo of the artist, following her involvement in the ARKO (Artist in Residence Kurashiki, OHARA) at the Ohara Museum of Art.

I was able to spend a generous amount of time indulging in the production of this work during my residence stay last year. Up until now, I had been trying to uncover painting styles that seemed difficult, in the attempt to gain new skills... but what I discovered one day was that the things I could paint naturally were what made those paintings unique. It’s difficult for us to see our own special qualities and talents.
Of course, I will continue searching for new ways of painting; but I feel that a burden has been lifted off my shoulders, in that I wish to take a deep breath and become naturally involved with each painting that I create, to make each one a unique work of art.
In this exhibition, I was able to delve deeply into what seems like a woven flat screen space, through the use of nested structures that arise by traveling between layers.
I want to create and see works that surprise even myself.
