Ogino Yuna creates semi-abstract paintings using motifs of living things that are familiar to her, such as flowers and people. She gradually transforms concrete depictions into abstract forms during the painting process, resulting in a harmonious interplay of various images and the rhythmic use of colors.
This exhibition will feature a series titled “Embrace” comprised of oil paintings depicting scenes of genderless bodies in contact with one another, and showing layers of physical relationships and emotions.

Ogino Yuna
Born in Tokyo in 1982. Completed Master’s in Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2007.
Ogino has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Japan and abroad, including Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh. Solo exhibitons include Silent Tales (2023, Mizuma Art Gallery, Tokyo), INNER TEXTURE (2022, MITSUKOSHI CONTEMPORARY GALLERY, Tokyo), and RELATE (2021, Mizuma & Kips, New York).
I create semi-abstract paintings on canvas using gesso and oil as my materials.
“Embrace” is a series of portraits that I began in 2021. This series intentionally avoids specifying gender, depicting scenes of human connection. Through the layered application of the dynamic textures unique to oil painting and delicate brushwork, I express the physical relationships and emotions between the figures.
