Each work of Miyamoto Kyoko features a woman, against an even larger backdrop of decorative elements that borrow from the cultures of anime, manga, Gothic & Lolita fashion and so forth. These background elements are heavily influenced by subculture and pop culture and are a distinctive part of Miyamoto’s work. The artist’s realistic worldview infuses fine art with subculture, offering viewers the unique experience of crossing between two- and three-dimensional worlds. The blurring of the boundary between the ordinary and extraordinary is one of the charms of Miyamoto’s work.
In addition to Japanese and Western-style paintings, this exhibition features works in oil pastel. We hope you will enjoy the diversity of art that these different styles and techniques have brought to life.

In my paintings, I usually draw various things like machines, musical instruments, dolls, toys and other objects as decorations for my characters. These objects are a visual representation of karma in our lives. I don’t believe the karmic nature of these items is negative. Rather, my paintings reflect a more positive visual meaning of enjoying our lives here in this world, because that’s what I want to believe.
