Participating Artists
- Inoue Kai
- Born in Ehime Prefecture, the birthplace of Tobe ware, he has been familiar with pottery since childhood, but has also developed an interest in street culture such as graffiti and dance. Using the unchanging material of ceramics, he expresses the physical energy and complex layers inherent in street culture, and presents in his works the traces of difficult times that are undergoing complex transformations.
- Shikata Haruna
- Based on the Overwrite concept (i.e., updating information, emotions, and personal experiences), he processes and edits the information stored in his own brain (photos, text, drawings, etc. linked to memories and thoughts). By reconstructing this using a variety of materials and techniques, his works express a way of thinking that allows one to move forward positively while accepting the past.
- Tanida Hiromi
- Born in Kochi Prefecture, Tanida’s work is centered around the attitude of “savoring life to the fullest,” using wine cap seals left behind after celebrations as material. Using the subtle glow inherent in the materials (stickers) that are traces of consumption, Tanida’s work attempts to visualize the bliss that is born from experience and then subsides. His works depict the human condition, in which senses bound by the gravity of reality are quietly opened and transformed into the colors of memory.
- Misato Nozawa
- Born in Chiba Prefecture and raised in the United States. According to the theme of a future of rich individuality and coexistence, he expresses an expanding world with the dynamism of life, free rhythm, and vivid colors. His works depict animals that change and adapt to diverse environments by making use of their own unique characteristics, and he overlays this with the image of human society. He creates with the belief in a future where individuality resonates between individuals and leads to creative development.
- Yumisashi Takahiro
- Born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. He has transformed the increasingly complex modern society, such as the relationship-building through social media and the iconization of human relationships, into characters, and has presented them in his Toon Demon and Mirror of the Soul series. Yumisashi’s works express the contradiction of exhibiting different personalities depending on interpersonal relationships and the environment, and the resulting conflict with one’s true self.
- MEG
- Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, MEG’s experience in martial arts during her student days gave her a deep sense of self-oppression through hierarchical relationships and required consideration for others. Her work explores themes of self-liberation and human emotions. In addition to her yearning for freedom, she also highlights the beauty inherent in the act of humans sometimes faking their emotions, delicately and powerfully depicting the contrasting true nature of humanity.
