Kamiji Ichitaka “Realism of Sculpture - The Place of Holiness”

2019.4.26 [Fri] - 5.19 [Sun]

Kamiji Ichitaka is a “portrait” sculptor pursuing complete realism. He recreates/reproduces the portrait sculptures made by the pioneers in the Middle Ages with their then-advanced technology by applying modern-day advanced technology, using his creativity, and paying attention to the reality, including each motif’s age, wrinkles, blemishes, pores, scars, way of living and culture.
For this exhibition, Kamiji has updated wooden sculptures of Kofuku-ji Temple’s Northern Round Hall (Hokuendo), and place these in the gallery space. Hope you’ll enjoy a modern take on a new perspective on the universe.
