Aoki Ryota is active at the forefront of contemporary ceramics.
Aoki’s work is recognized for its use of traditional techniques while incorporating contemporary design and sensibilities. He continues to create his works with a passionate desire to create beautiful and fashionable pottery that no one has ever seen before, with a sincere love of pottery. Through numerous experiments such as his research of glazes and combining different materials, Aoki creates Mino pottery that is unbound by traditional preconceptions for the twenty-first century.

Aoki Ryota
Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1978. Self-proclaimed pottery geek and ceramic artist. Graduated from the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center in 2002. Currently operates a studio in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture. Aoki creates new pottery traditions using a variety of materials, while respecting humanity’s 16,000-year-old tradition of ceramic receptacle design.
