Kotaki Atsushi launched his brand of handmade fishing lures in 2000, and his encounter with the RUMBLE MONSTERS figure Adam in 2008 inspired him to begin creating his own soft vinyl figures. Unlike typical soft vinyl figures, Kotaki’s works feature beautifully stenciled lines and vivid colors, which have caught the attention of many fans both in Japan and overseas.
With “EVOLUTION” as its theme, this exhibition features Kotaki’s work spanning 23 years, from the artist’s debut effort Gekko (Moonlight) for which the original mold had been thought lost for many years; to his latest work SPACE MONKEY. The exhibition also features a number of works that show Kotaki’s evolving methods of artistic expression. Kotaki’s most recent SPACE MONKEY works will be available for purchase in limited colors for this exhibition only.
